5th Annual Meeting of AFROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing, Dakar, Senegal. 16 -21 November, 2015.
AFROSAI Working Group on Environmental Auditing (AFROSAI WGEA) held a meeting for its members to strengthen their capacities in Environmental Auditing, in relation to the continental and global issues in this field from 16 to 21, November, 2015.
The aim of the meeting was to facilitate cooperation, exchange of information and sharing of knowledge between African SAIs, with particular emphasis on aspects such as: capacity building, through training sessions, the evolution of professional practices of environmental auditing, Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) of the United Nations, cooperative audit projects between SAIs and environmental audit activities at regional and global levels.
The meeting, whose general theme was "Cooperation between SAIs, a necessity for the preservation of the environment", also held a one day training workshop on "Auditing Environmental Issues Associated with Infrastructure Developments" under the technical assistance of the SAI of Estonia.
The meeting discussed the following issues, climate change and food security, sustainable development Goals and African SAIs, environmental auditing with emphasis on forestry resources; water resources and waste and cooperative activities of SAIs for the environment.
The meeting was attended by sixty-nine delegates from thirty-two countries. SAI Lesotho as chair of the INTOSAI WGEA Research Project on “How to Increase quality and impacts of Environmental Audits”, made a presentation on the progress the research team had made up to that time.
The presentation was done with the assistance of SAI Cameroon as co-chair. The next meeting will be in Nigeria in May, 2016. The office of the Auditor General Lesotho was represented by Mrs Manako Ramonate and Mrs Mamahooana Leisanyane.
