In its endeavour to promote Economy, Efficiency and Effectiveness within the public sector, the Office of the Auditor General (OAG) undertook a performance audit on Management of Sickness Absence at the Ministry of Communications Science and Technology (MCST). The audit was aimed at finding out what problems were encountered in managing sickness absence and establishing its cost. The report has outlined the findings, conclusions and recommendations on the matter.
It is my hope that the recommendations laid out in this report will assist MCST and other government ministries in improving management of sickness absence.
The audit was carried out by M. Phenya, M. Lekhetho and M. Hlapisi. The audit team received full co-operation from MCST’s management and staff, to whom my gratitude is extended, for without their co-operation and assistance the audit could not have been carried out with ease.
